Simpson Debate wins Championship at Public Forum Debate Tournament in West Virginia

After winning 14 of the 16 preliminary debate rounds, Simpson College went on to capture the championship in Public Forum Debate at Marshall University in Huntington, WV on October 25-26.

Additionally the Debate Team placed second in overall debate sweepstakes, making them the number 2 team in the “Large School Division.”

To capture this honor, student competed against schools from the following universities:

For the first time, Simpson earned a sweepstakes award for their excellence in speech.  In combined team points (speech & debate), Simpson placed 4th.

Public Forum Debate

In the preliminary rounds, our four public forum teams finished with a 14-2 record; the team went on to win finals.

Top Speaker was Ethan Fredrick. Second speaker was Jacob McLain. Third speakers were Jacy Gomez and Emma Kain. Kiley Murray received the 6th speaker award.

Emma Kain received the top novice award in Public Forum

Ethan Fredrick and Emma Kain received Pi Kappa Delta Awards of Excellence.

Kiley Murray placed 6th. Ethan Fredrick placed 4th.

Duo Improv

Ethan Fredrick and Tyler Millard placed 2nd in Duo Improv. The team also received the top novice award and a Pi Kappa Delta award of Excellence.
