The 8 Simpson students who are studying abroad in French Polynesia this semester on the island of Tahiti are giving back to the community through a local service project.
Arranged by the faculty director of the program, Dr. Carolyn Dallinger (Sociology and Criminal Justice), the venture has connected the Simpson group with a 5th-grade class at a local elementary school.
These young students are prepping for an 8-day class field trip to New Zealand in April.
Weekly activities with the Simpson students give the Tahitians a chance to practice their English with native speakers.
The 5th-graders also give their Simpson counterparts the chance to be immersed in the Tahitian school system—a win-win situation for everyone involved!
