: Corporate Media Intern with Meredith Corporation (Des Moines)
Duties: worked with social media, produced newsletters and helped the company’s internal communication process

“Before college, I had no idea one of America’s biggest magazine companies was headquartered right here in Des Moines. This internship has allowed me to make connections not just throughout the metro, but with people in places like New York, too. With Simpson’s close proximity to Des Moines, I’m able  to continue this internship through the fall.”

Baillee Furst

“I went into the Iowa Farm Bureau knowing nothing about agriculture. I learned a lot about the public relations field that will help me in my job search after graduation. It’s important to be familiar with a variety of industries – especially when you’re finding a job in public relations or marketing.”

Emma Gerdis

Internship position/location: Program Intern at the Des Moines Arts Festival
Duties: planned and executed the Community Outreach Program, ran interactive activities on-site and formulated a final report after the event concluded

“I liked working for the Des Moines Arts Festival because it truly felt like a family. There were 4 other interns including me, and even though we all had separate jobs, we really worked well together and had fun while doing it!”

Emma Schlenker

Major: Public Relations
Internship position/location: Strategic Development Intern at General Atomics (San Diego, CA)
Duties: social media analytics, drafting press releases and political relations through media marketing

“I learned how interesting Aerospace and Defense are as well as how much I enjoy working in a way that changes the world but through innovation, not policy. I loved learning about the world through the eyes of STEM majors and how they affect the political world I’m so interested in.”
