Undergraduate Research Symposium

Students present work at Undergraduate Research Symposium

On April 18th, 2013, starting at 8:00 a.m., Simpson College will host its third annual undergraduate symposium. The symposium serves to showcase outstanding scholarly works produced by Simpson students through the presentation of papers, performances, posters and/or panel discussions. We define research, scholarship and creativity broadly as any self-directed work that enables individual students or small groups of students to explore an issue of interest to them and to communicate the results to others. The projects involve inquiry, design, investigation, research, analysis, scholarship, discovery, application, writing and/or performance, depending on the topic and field of interest. Each field may approach research, scholarship and creativity in its own way and with its own emphases.

Symposium organizers invite each department to identify student works that it deems exemplary in its respective field and to encourage the students to compete for an opportunity to present their work. Professors may also request a panel discussion for students to present collaboratively on a particular topic and to invite broader discussion of that topic.

We hope this year's symposium will continue the tradition of excellence established by our previous symposia.
