Transfer Colloquium

Simpson Colloquium is one of the core academic classes that all Simpson students take.

Limited to 18 students, it integrates new students into an academic culture focused on engaged citizenship by providing you with a good building block for completing the requirements of the Engaged Citizenship Curriculum. The course is focused on developing your skills in written communications and critical thinking.

SC 201 also introduces you to a variety of campus resources. Rather than orienting you to college life in general, this course acquaints you to Simpson College in particular. We recognize that you already know about things like general education requirements, libraries, and career development offices, so SC 201 will skip the basics. Instead it focuses on the quirks and special features that define how these things work at Simpson.

The professor teaching the course will act as your academic advisor. Two upper-class students, the Simpson Colloquium Leader and Writing Fellow, will assist your professor.

SC201 is designed for the particular needs of transfer students. We recognize that you have been to college before and do not need the same sort of orientation to college life needed by those who are new to college life. However, you may opt to take SC 101 (which is designed for new students who have never been to college before) instead of SC 201.

Listed below are all the SC 201 course offerings for Fall 2013 and Spring 2014. When you enroll in the upcoming semester’s courses in consultation with your academic advisor, you will choose one of them. To set up this meeting, arrange a campus visit by calling the office of admissions at 515-961-1660 (local) or 800-362-2454 (toll-free).
