Art is how we express ourselves without words. Simpson College’s art department is committed to providing you with the foundation necessary for successful creative expression. We do this through studio instruction, taught by faculty members who are themselves working artists. You will learn the latest contemporary and scholarly ideas.
You may focus on either graphic design or studio arts as a major, and both studio arts and art history are available as a minor. We will support you if you choose to complement your art major with studies in other departments, as well.
Effective 2016, requirements for both majors and minors will follow different requirements than in previous years. All new students will be admitted under the new course requirements, which are up to date online. All students enrolled before Fall 2016, who are currently declared for the previous requirements, please see the academic catalog, or contact your advisor to locate your specific degree requirements.
In addition, Simpson is affiliated with Lorenzo di Medici Escuola di Arts in Florence, Italy. This international experience is great exposure for you to study subjects like fashion merchandising, sculpture, art history, painting or printmaking.
Our students also have traveled to the Art Institute of Chicago, Walker Museum of Art in Minneapolis, and the Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City to study the masters. Students have also traveled to New York and visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and Guggenheim.
Students who choose the Simpson Art Department find a community of creative artists who enjoy a healthy exchange of artistic ideas and expression.
The professors are Bob Kling, Justin Nostrala, Dave Richmond, Gabrielle Rose-Curti, Richard Kazmerzak, and Karen Doty.
Somewhere out there is a young person who will graduate from Simpson in the year 2019. Might we suggest he or she investigate the career possibilities at Lessing-Flynn Advertising in Des Moines? More…View All »
