In addition to the travel abroad courses offered for a semester or a May term, students are also able to go on smaller-scale field trips. These include visiting the Des Moines Art Center and the Pappajohn's Sculpture Park in downtown Des Moines. Students are also given the option to visit cities like Minneapolis, Chicago, and Kansas City, to view other galleries and museums. Photos from the trip to Chicago in 2012 are shown below.
The art department took a group of 18 students and professors to New York City January 23-26, 2014. They were able to visit the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in addition to several local galleries. In addition to seeing the amazing art of New York, they were also able to see Time Square and the Statue of Liberty. After four days of subway riding and walking in the cold, delays and changed flights, the group made it back to Iowa safe and sound.
