An Art Scholarship at Simpson College allows the recipient to receive financial assistance for tuition based on their skills and experience in art and their commitment to an Art Major or Minor in the Simpson College Art Department. Students can apply for the Simpson Art Scholarship by presenting a portfolio of 12 works of art and two letters of recommendation to an Art Department faculty member.  Portfolios and letters can also be mailed or sent electronically.

To mail the portfolio using regular postage, jpegs of the 12 works of art should be placed on a CD and mailed to the Art Department along with the two letters of recommendation.  (Please do not send actual portfolios of art through the mail. Also please make sure photographs of artwork are of quality so that work can be easily assessed.)

In using e-mail, the applicant should send the portfolio as a PowerPoint presentation, but still mail the two letters of recommendation using traditional, US postage. (Please keep PowerPoint presentations simple ensuring that flashy PowerPoint backgrounds or other effects don’t interfere with the opportunity to view your artwork.)

The ideal way to apply for an Art Scholarship is to bring your portfolio in person. This allows us to meet in person, see your actual work, and discuss our program with you in more depth.  To set up an appointment to present your portfolio to a faculty member of the Art Department please call (515) 961-1427.  To arrange a full campus visit that will include a campus tour along with presenting your portfolio and letters of recommendation for an Art Scholarship, please contact the Admissions Office at (515) 961-1660.

If you will be submitting your portfolio in person it is important to have your work framed and/or matted.  Work on paper can be presented within a vinyl or leather artist’s portfolio instead of matted or framed.

All applications (portfolio of 12 works of art and 2 letters of recommendation) for the Simpson College Art Scholarship must be received by March 1, 2014.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Justin Nostrala or call 515-961-1761.
