While the candidate’s expertise could be in any field of chemistry except organic, she/he will be expected to teach general chemistry, physical chemistry, have the opportunity to teach a course in their specific discipline, and to contribute to the general education program at the college.

The position will begin August 19, 2014 and require a Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree, interdisciplinary interest and experience and/or expressed interest in working at a primarily residential, liberal arts institution. Candidates for the position must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and a willingness to engage students in scholarship, research and/or creative work. Faculty members at Simpson College are expected to participate in faculty governance, student advising, new student recruitment and in other ways to demonstrate support for the mission of the institution.
She/he will also serve as a mentor for majors in research and participate in the life of the chemistry department. Departmental instrumentation to support research includes GC-MS, FT-IR, FT-NMR, UV-Vis, and an atomic force microscope. The applicant would be invited to join an ongoing interdisciplinary research project in DNA nanotechnology or initiate an original independent research program. Strong candidates will possess leadership potential, be active in his/her discipline, be a self-starter, a team player, and play an active role in the department’s recruitment of students.
