I am committed to helping students develop their talents and achieve their professional goals, believing that a well-rounded Simpson experience includes exposure and immersion to the work-place. Through my role as Internship Coordinator, I coordinate the search, registration, and evaluation processes of all credit-bearing internships on campus. I also assist students with their internship applications and coordinate events to connect students with employers.
Prior to my role of Internship Coordinator, I served pre-service teachers as the Head Academic Advisor for the College of Education at Oregon State University (OSU) in Corvallis, Oregon. In this capacity, I helped students plan their course schedules, navigate their paths toward teacher licensure, and ensure all their graduation requirements were met.
My training for these positions came through my graduate degree in College Student Services Administration from OSU, but my motivation sparked from my work with the youth non-profit Camp Adventure Child and Youth Services. I spent six years working for Camp Adventure, recruiting and training 130(+) college-aged students each year to serve as youth counselors on both domestic and international military installations. I supervised these students during the summer months in Alabama, Hawaii, Japan, Spain, England, and Germany.
My link to Camp Adventure came through my undergraduate studies in Elementary Education at the University of Northern Iowa. I graduated from UNI certified to teach Elementary and Middle Level Education and spent my first two-years as a working professional teaching elementary school at Hoover Elementary in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
I feel blessed to be serving Simpson College and hope to instill the importance of gaining experience to all students.
