This is my 28th year at Simpson, and I am a graduate of Simpson. Over the years I have taught a wide variety of courses including: The Learning Process, Social Studies Methods, special education assessment and methods, reading assessment and methods including remedial reading, and classroom management. My specialty areas–my true loves and passion–are early childhood and children’s literature. Over the years I have served as Department Chair and Licensure Officer for a total of about 11 years, and I am one of three people who advise students who are seeking the early childhood endorsement. I hold three graduate level degrees.
Prior to coming to Simpson, I held education positions in a wide variety of settings. I taught every grade from preschool through graduate level courses. Most of my teaching was in special education settings. I have worked in large, urban districts like Kansas City, Missouri, and I also taught in the small town of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, where I created and directed a new preschool program designed for children at-risk for school failure. I also worked in a suburban setting in Independence, Missouri. For three years I worked for the United States Department of Education, and I have worked for the Heartland Area Education Agency and the Iowa Department of Education.
In my spare time I love to read, swim, ride horses, listen to music, watch movies, and spend time with my family. I love the spirit and energy of holidays!
I look forward to meeting you.
