A Simpson College alumnus, one of the highlights of my Simpson experience was participating in the January (now May) terms, traveling and studying in Mexico and Spain. These experiences cemented my interest in all things international. Following graduation from Simpson, I earned a Master of Science in Higher Education from Southern Illinois University –Carbondale while my thesis focused on international students.
While living in Venezuela for six years, IBM in Caracas offered many opportunities where I found a niche and began a language & translation consulting company. When my family moved to the Dominican Republic, I continued to provide these services to the hospitality and business industries.
A return to the United States after 8 years abroad took me to Miami, where I had the challenge and joy of raising three children while pursuing new directions in my career. At the University of Miami, I designed and implemented graduate programs, recruited students internationally, and developed international internships, while also teaching in the Human Resources Certificate Program.
As Training Manager for Latin America in Motorola’s Latin American/Caribbean division, I developed a passion for training and also initiated translation project management. Credit goes to my manager, who was an amazing leader and mentor, for encouraging me to develop new skills as I trained managers and channel partners in sales and customer service and utilized my language skills.
Prior to returning to my home state of Iowa, I provided consulting and training in customer service, leadership, and management to the healthcare, commercial, legal and technology industries while continuing to teach and translate. It is a joy to have the opportunity to pursue my career and vocational passions at Simpson College and most importantly work with students to help them prepare for their futures.
