Known for his charismatic portrayals, Bass, MATTHEW LAU is among the most versatile performers on the American opera circuit today.  Career highlights include recent New York City premiers of Teatro Gratacielo’s La Cena delle Beffe and Robert Ward’s Claudia Legare.   His extensive career has made him a regular with:

Favorite roles include Sulpice in La Fille du Régiment, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Padre Guardiano in La Forza del Destino, Mustafà in L’Italiana in Algeri, Osmin in Die Entführung Aus Dem Serail, Basilio and Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the title role in Don Pasquale, Banquo in Macbeth, Oroveso in Norma, Leporello in Don Giovanni, and Méphistophélès in Faust.

Mr. Lau can be heard on the grammy winning recording of ELMER GANTRYas Rev. Baines, and has just returned from Milwaukee’s Florentine Opera’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro.
