I have had the priviledge of teaching at Simpson College since 2004. I’m in charge of the art education major and teach elementary and secondary art methods classes, supervise art practicum students and student teachers and teach drawing, painting and design. I also teach classes in the education department. I am a board member of BRAVO Greater Des Moines, which distributes over $2 million to Central Iowa art, science and huanities organizations.

I am a painter and potter and create my own work in my studio in Indianola and my work has been exhibited throughout the United States. I’m also a writer and have been writing a newspaper column for 25 years and have done freelance writing for many newspapers and magazines.

I have been an art teacher for approxmiately forty years including thirty-three at the secondary level. I received a Master of Arts in painting from the University of Northern Iowa and a B.A. in art education with emphases in drawing and art history, also from the University of Northern Iowa. I taught twelve years at Mormon Trail Community Schools and built an award winning art program at Indianola High School where I taught for twenty-two years. While at Indianola, I taught drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, graphic design and digital imaging. I also served as the dept. chair, director of the Indianola Schools Gallery of Art and the district Webmaster.

I was also a consultant for many years for the Iowa Department of Education and gave workshops in multi-cultural non-sexist education in schools all over Iowa. I also served as a DOE teacm member for the Board of Educational Examiners evaluating many Iowa colleges who provide teacher programs leading to licensure. I was also chosen as one of five finallists for the 1992 Iowa Teacher of the Year and in 1997 was selected as the Educator of the Year by the Indianola Chamber of commerce.
