Ever since I can remember, music has always played a huge part in my life. Before college, I participated in many vocal and orchestral activities. As I neared the end of high school, my heart was set on attending Simpson College. While growing up, I had attended several of their musical events, and I knew that it was where I was meant to be.When I entered college, my intent was to get a degree in Vocal Music Performance. Around the end of my sophomore year, though, I learned that the life-style of an opera performer just wasn’t right for me. Simpson’s amazing faculty and staff helped me to discover not only what I was good at, but what I wanted out of my life. While at Simpson, I participated in Choir, Madrigal, operas, Mu Phi Epsilon, APO, and performed a one-hour recital each year. In 2008, I graduated from Simpson College with a BA in Music and a BA in Corporate Communications.
Right after graduation, I started working for Wells Fargo Bank, where I was a teller, lead teller, banker, and service manager. In 2009 I married my husband, Miguel, and in September 2012, we had our daughter, Natalia. Ever since then, I’ve been back into the music field–and I couldn’t be happier! My degree in music has made it possible to have a more flexible schedule. Along with working part-time for Simpson, I currently direct the youth choir at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Indianola, and the bell choir and adult choir at Union Park United Methodist Church in Des Moines. I also enjoy singing and playing violin for weddings.
I couldn’t be happier to be back around music. I love what I do so much, that it doesn’t even feel like work! Do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life.
