“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” – Henry David Thoreau

This is one of my favorite quotes because it inspires me to not only pursue and live-out my own aspirations, but to do work that helps others pursue their own dreams as well. As an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at Iowa State, I developed a keen interest in working with college students in particular and have been pursuing opportunities that allow me to do so ever since. I began my work in career services as a Graduate Intern in 2007 at the University Career Center at the University of Kansas, where I was enrolled in a Higher Education Administration master’s program. So inspired by the meaningful work I was able to do there as an intern, I eventually advanced as a Career Consultant and an Assistant Director of Career Education before completing my master’s degree in 2009. While working at KU, I worked directly with students through appointments, workshops, and programs, helping each of them identify and pursue their own career goals.

When personal circumstances brought me back to central Iowa in early 2012, I was thrilled to receive an opportunity to continue my work in college career services when I was chosen as Simpson’s Internship Coordinator. Now a part of the Career Services and Center for Vocation and Integrative Learning teams, I work with students daily to help them seek out and complete internships and collaborate with faculty, staff, and employers to create and promote internship opportunities for Simpson students.

My personal interests include spending time with my husband and pets (two dogs and one very sassy guinea pig), trying new restaurants and going to concerts with family and friends, reading, cooking (poorly), crafting (also poorly), tailgating and college football, and traveling. I am originally from Ames and am so very excited to be back in central Iowa after living “over the rainbow” in Kansas for four years.
