Backstage Crew

Students have the opportunity to work backstage in various areas during a production. Backstage crew positions are filled during the academic year. The following are Backstage Crew opportunities available to students:

Electrics

  • Light Board Operator: Prepares for and operates the light board during a production.
  • Master Electrician: Responsible for Light Checks and any lighting problems during a production.
  • Follow Spot Operator: Operates the spotlight during a production and assists in the preparation of doing so.
  • Projectionist: Operates any projection equipment during a production and assists in the preparation of doing so.

Sound


Properties

  • Prop/Deck Crew Head: Manages the Prop/Deck crew in all props work or scene shifts during a performance and assists the Props Designer in providing necessary documentation.
  • Props/Deck Crew: Executes any scene shifts and prop work that is done during a production, including setting props, hand offs, and other work pertaining to the props. Also prepares the stage and backstage areas for the performance.

Costumes

  • Wardrobe Master: Manages the Wardrobe Crew in any costume work during a production, and assists the Costume Designer in creating documentation for doing so.
  • Wardrobe Crew: Executes any costume work during a production, including setting costumes, quick changes, and other work pertaining to the costumes. Also prepares and maintains the dressing rooms and Costume Shop during performances.

Hair and Make-up

  • Hair and Make-up Crew Head: Manages the Hair and Make-up Crew in any work during a production, and assists the designer in creating documentation for doing so.
  • Hair and Make-up Crew: Executes any hair or make-up work during a production, including application, quick changes, and other work pertaining to hair and makeup. Also prepares and maintains the dressing rooms and Costume Shop during performances. These duties are sometimes done in conjunction with the Wardrobe Crew.

Audience Services

  • House Manager Pote: Manages the Front of House crew in overseeing the assistance of patrons, maintaining the house and lobby areas, and other duties as necessary. Also assists with pre-production preparation in selling tickets, maintaining the house, and other duties.
  • House Manager Barnum: Manages the Front of House crew in overseeing the assistance of patrons, maintaining the house and lobby areas, and other duties as necessary. Also assists with pre-production preparation in selling tickets, maintaining the house, and other duties.
  • Box Office Manager: Manages the box office during a production by handling patrons’ reservations, filling out a nightly report about audience information, and handling money. Also assists with preproduction preparation in selling tickets, maintaining the box office, and other duties.
  • Front of House Crew: Is responsible for assisting the patrons of a production by maintaining the house and lobby areas, taking tickets, handing out programs, and interacting with patrons in a friendly and professional manner. Also assists with preproduction preparation in selling tickets, maintaining the house, and other duties.
