What is a career fair?

A career fair is an event that brings together employers and students.  Employers come to advertise their open internship, summer, part time, and full time opportunities.  Students come to show their interest in these positions and make contacts with employers in their chosen career fields.

Who should attend a career fair?

1. Students who are looking for internship, summer, part time, or full time opportunities
2. Students who are exploring careers

How do I prepare for the career fair?

  • Research each organization which interests you.  Employers will be impressed if you come with an understanding of what their company does and have intelligent questions prepared.
  • Prepare a solid resume to hand employers of interest.  Check out Career Services’ resume manual to get you stated.  You should also make an appointment with Career Services to have your resume reviewed.
  • Practice your firm handshake, eye contact, and “elevator speech.”  An elevator speech is a 30 second introduction of yourself which includes information on your education, experience, and interest.
  • Attend the Countdown to Career Fair workshops:

What should I wear to the career fair?

  • Career fair dress is business professional.  Men should wear a suit or nice slacks, a collared shirt, and a tie.  Ladies should wear a skirt or pants suit, nice slacks and a nice top, or a professional dress.  Both genders should stick to conservative colors (black, gray, brown), be aware of necklines and length, and wear minimal jewelry and perfume.  Jeans and sweats should not be worn to this event.

AmeriCorps NCCC is a full time, residential, national service program for 18-24 year-olds. For 10 months, members work in teams of 8-12 on service projects. Members are assigned to one of five NCCC campuses.

AmeriCorps NCCC oversees two service tracks: NCCC & FEMA Corps. NCCC teams serve on projects in the areas of natural & other disasters, environment, energy conservation, infrastructure improvement and urban & rural development. FEMA Corps teams serve on a FEMA projects that focus on administrative & logistical support in the areas of emergency management & long-term recovery.

Polk County Health Department

The Polk County Health Department provides healthcare and prevention services to individuals and families in Polk County who do not have adequate health care or health insurance. Our health clinic team is comprised of a Nurse Practitioner, several Registered Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Office Specialists, Interpreters and is supported by laboratory staff. This team provides basic health care services such as physicals, immunizations, STD testing and treatment, and communicable disease investigations. The Health Department also has a planning and education team that is focused on community based health. This team includes health educators and public health planners who work on community based health initiatives such as childhood mental wellness and multi-cultural health.

Saint Paul School of Theology

Saint Paul School of Theology is a seminary of the United Methodist Church with two unique campus collaborations with Church of the Resurrection in the Greater Kansas City area and Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
