Approximately 50% of our graduates attend Graduate School and have gone on to places such as University of Iowa Medical School, Iowa State University, Old Dominion University, University of Nebraska, University of Colorado, Drake University’s College of Pharmacy and University of Missouri Columbia, Des Moines University, University of Colorado, University of Texas, Syracuse University, and the Scripps Oceanographic Institute.
“Ever since I decided I wanted to be a researcher, I have had two goals: to be fluent in another language and to research in a foreign country. As a biochemistry major, I have taken my fair share of chemistry and physics classes. What impressed me most was the caring nature of the professors. They treated me less like a student and more like a future counterpart. I have a second major of German, which requires one semester of study abroad. My professors were more than willing to sit down with me to plan my schedule so I could finish both majors, study abroad and graduate in four years. In addition, I know I can count on the faculty for detailed letters of recommendation since they have taken the time to get to know me personally. These letters of recommendation have helped secure summer research positions, most recently a position at the University of Kassel in Germany. I was offered the opportunity to present a research project at the Fall American Chemical Society meeting in Boston.”
