Simpson takes a progressive approach to journalism, focusing on communication tools in the new Internet age. Simpson offers two different majors in Multimedia Journalism and Integrated Marketing Communication to prepare students for challenges in the 21st century workplace. In addition to traditional writing, editing and reporting skills, many of Simpson’s communications courses teach skills relevant to new media, such as creating podcasts, video and audio productions and content for the Web.
Simpson’s location near Des Moines, the largest multi-media center in the state of Iowa, is a huge advantage for students interested in journalism and communication, because it provides many opportunities for internships.
