The mission of the Service Hub is to support and expand the combination of community service, civic engagement, and academic service-learning for the purpose of enhancing the educational experience of the students, the mission of the college, the teaching and/or research of the faculty, and the ability of community partners to accomplish their objectives.
The Simpson College Service Hub is recognized for outstanding service as a member of the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll!
Simpson College has won this award six years running. However, in 2008 and 2009, Simpson received the award “With Distinction.” In order to be noted “With Distinction,” a college must meet the criteria set forth in the special focus area. In 2009, the special focus was disadvantaged youth, and Simpson was recognized due to its many outstanding initiatives in this area. Simpson was one of only 83 colleges in the country honored “With Distinction,” including one other college in Iowa.
The Simpson community annually volunteers more than 40,000 service hours, an estimated value of over $827,000 to the economy. The Center for Vocation and Integrative Learning would like to congratulate Simpson’s students, faculty, and staff for all of their service over the past year.
