Participation FAQ

Who Participates?

EMERGE@Simpson is designed to be inclusive of Simpson students, faculty, staff, and alumni accross all academic disciplines.  It is a program for self-starters, creative thinkers and anyone who likes to solve problems.  It is an opportunity to put learning into practice, where students are valued as a core resource.

EMERGE@Simpson is not a major, it is a program that accepts any student pursuing any degree.  Specific fields of study or majors are not as important as an appreciation of the venture development-presentation-feeedback cycle.  Program participants with backgrounds in marketing, computer programming, mathmatics, accounting, economics, literature, and art have all found valued roles on venture teams.

Just ask EMERGE@Simpson program professors and staff how to participate, not if you can!

How Does the Innovation and Feedback Cycle Work?

EMERGE@Simpson ventures participating on-campus, with Carver Connections, and in partnership with the Emerge Foundation follow similar development paths.  Ideas and teams are continually refined with the guidance of staff, mentor teams, and faculty.

Core entrepreneurial topics include customer discovery, defining problems, proposing solutions, and developing value propositions.  These lead to strategic activities that help ventures prepare for their next development phases.

Ventures begin by agreeing to a basic set of foundational activities, then progress through the stages of:

  1. Proof of Concept
  2. Business Model Canvas
  3. Business Plan
  4. Enterprise Pathways
