Workshops & Events
Faculty Workshops During Iowa Private College Week: These 2-hour workshops are designed to provide instructors with ideas that are likely to be reflected in a syllabus. Because IPCW is the first week in August, you’ll have a month to integrate the ideas you learn into your courses.
New Faculty Orientation will be on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This first meeting will provide new full-time and part-time faculty teaching in the day program with an introduction to some of the key people on campus. We’ll begin at 8:30 a.m. in Dunn Library. Lunch at noon in the Craven Room in Dunn Library for this event. New faculty orientation for the evening program will be held separately.
Faculty Development Day: Three pairs of concurrent sessions will be offered on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. FDD has two purposes: provide all faculty with ideas they can incorporate into their classes without having to make major changes to their syllabi, and to provide new faculty with teaching resources to help them get oriented to teaching at Simpson. Please RSVP to the faculty development office if you would like to participate in any of these great sessions!
GIFT Sessions: GIFT stands for Great Ideas For Teaching. Each of these 20 minute sessions provides one concrete idea you can easily implement in your own classes. More information to follow soon.
Faculty Hour: Because many faculty development topics cannot be adequately discussed in a 20-minute format, these sessions last an hour. Each session will be offered twice: once in the late afternoon and once in the evening. The sessions will cover topics related to the new engaged citizenship curriculum as well as other topics related to teaching, advising, scholarship, and service.
