Faculty Development Day: Pairs of concurrent sessions will be offered on Monday, January 13, 2014. FDD has two purposes: provide all faculty with ideas they can incorporate into their classes without having to make major changes to their syllabi, and to provide new faculty with teaching resources to help them get oriented to teaching at Simpson. Please RSVP to the faculty development office if you would like to participate in any of these great sessions!
“First” Wednesday Forum Event: There is a proliferation of misinformation pertaining to how people learn. The good news is that research provides clear evidence pertaining to what works best. Todd Zakrajsek will provide evidence of how students learn and offer examples of how students can apply it when they study and how teachers can apply it in their classrooms at a Forum Event Wednesday January 22, 2014 – 1:00 PM in Kent – Hubbell Hall.
GIFT Sessions: GIFT stands for Great Ideas For Teaching. Each of these 20 minute sessions provides one concrete idea you can easily implement in your own classes. More information to follow soon.
Faculty Workshops During Iowa Private College Week: These 2-hour workshops are designed to provide instructors with ideas and assistance. Because IPCW is the first week in August, you’ll have a month to integrate the ideas you learn into your courses or the spare time to work on planning for a sabbatical, etc.
New Faculty Orientation will be on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This first meeting will provide new full-time and part-time faculty teaching in the day program with an introduction to some of the key people on campus. We’ll begin at 8:30 a.m. in Dunn Library in the Craven Room. Lunch will be at 11 a.m. in the Matthew Simpson Room in College Hall. New faculty orientation for the evening program will be held separately.
