Grant to Attend

The Lilly Conference on College & University Teaching in Bethesda

The faculty development committee would like to send 2 faculty members, preferably one tenured and one tenure-track, to the Lilly Conference on College & University Teaching in Bethesda, Maryland from May 28 through May 31, 2015. The conference theme is Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning.

Faculty Development will pay the conference registration, airfare, and the cost of a shared hotel room. Our intent in sending two people is for them to have opportunities to discuss with each other teaching and learning issues and information gleaned from various conference sessions, and to be able to jointly consider how to present these ideas to the faculty.

If you would like to be one of the people the faculty development committee sends to this conference, please send a proposal to Sal Meyers by Monday, February 2. Any current full-time faculty member who will be teaching at Simpson in 2014-2015 is eligible to apply.

In the proposal, please explain why you want to attend the conference and how it will be beneficial to you. We recommend you connect your own personal teaching goals (or personal teaching challenges) to the conference in addressing why you want to attend. Your personal teaching goals could be related to a particular teaching challenge you would like to address. When the committee reviews the proposals, they will consider the clarity of the proposal, the anticipated benefits of attendance articulated, and the likelihood of those benefits being realized.  The proposal need not be more than 1 page.

Faculty who attend will be expected to share something they learned at the conference with the rest of the Simpson community within a year of attending the conference. This could be a GIFT session, a faculty development day session, or a session during Iowa Private College Week

If you have questions, please contact Sal Meyers or a member of the Faculty Development Committee.
