One Year – Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Simpson College is a private, nationally recognized regional college that is grounded in the liberal arts tradition and affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Nominations and applications are invited for a one year position as Assistant Professor in Chemistry. Teaching responsibilities would be to teach General Chemistry lecture and laboratory both semesters and a course for non-majors including a lab component, in the spring semester.  This teaching assignment fits the normal seven course load for visiting professors.

Our program offers majors in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Forensic Science with about 30-40 majors total. Many of the department’s graduates go on for PhD degrees.  Recently we have graduates studying at U of Minnesota, Washington University, Yale University, University of Nebraska, University of Michigan, Loyola University (Chicago), Rush Medical School, University of Iowa and Iowa State University.  This past summer three graduates received their PhD degrees and two are involved in Post Doc programs at the University of Illinois and MIT.

Applications should include a cover letter describing their interest and qualifications for the position, a current curriculum vita, and at least two letters of recommendation from those who can comment on their potential as a teacher. It would be helpful to include in the cover letter, or in a separate document, their approach to teaching chemistry at a liberal arts college.

Application materials may be sent electronically to Dr. Ron Warnet, Professor of Chemistry at ron.warnet@simpson.edu, or mailed to:  Chemistry Search, c/Ron Warnet, Department of Chemistry, Simpson College, 701 North C St., Indianola, Iowa 50125.
