Service and First Year Experience Coordinator

Simpson College, a selective liberal arts college affiliated with The United Methodist Church, seeks applications and nominations for the position of Coordinator of Service and First Year Experience.  This is a 12 month, full-time position which reports to the Director of the Center for Vocation and Integrative Learning (CVIL).

In regard to service, the principal duties and responsibilities will include:  developing service-learning programs, coordinating and tracking student service-learning participation through such programs as Americorps and Wesley Service Scholars, and assisting with the planning of such large campus events such as First-Year Service Day, Campus Day and MLK Day.

In regard to first-year programming, the principal duties and responsibilities will include: working with the Director of CVIL to coordinate summer, fall, and mid-year orientation activities, hiring and supervising orientation (SC) leaders, and facilitating first-year appointments and events geared toward vocational exploration.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelors’ degree in a related field. A Master’s degree in higher education or related field is preferred. Other helpful experiences and skills include: knowledge of civic engagement and service-learning, demonstrable effectiveness in managing like higher education programs, excellent human relations skills which include the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff, effective oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills, basic technology skills including Microsoft Office and social media experience, and a commitment to helping students find their place and life’s calling.
