Make an appointment to visit the new Joseph W. Walt Research Library and renovated college archives on the third floor of Dunn Library. The Walt Library includes Walt’s personal books and memorabilia on Liechtenstein, Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and Simpson College history. Thanks to a generous gift from Dr. Joe Walt’s niece and nephews, the college archives are now more accessible and more secure. There is a research room and workroom with temperature, humidity, and fire suppression systems. Double-pane windows and additional insulation will keep the spaces warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
The college archives collects, preserves, and makes available source records about Simpson College. The archives has over 800 linear feet of materials including manuscripts, photographs, maps, recordings, and memorabilia. Items may be used in-house by appointment only. Because of its storage arrangement, the archives is not browsable. Email comments or questions to the archivist or call (515) 961-1519.
