Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) provides Simpson College students, faculty, and staff research materials not available at Dunn Library.  Many of our databases have direct links to ILL or requests may be submitted by filling out eforms:

Article Request
Book Request

You will receive an email verifying your request has been received.

Please check our catalog for availability before submitting requests. Include as much information as you can:  for books, title, author and ISBN; for journal articles:  title, author, volume & issue number.

Many Dunn Library databases feature direct article ILL link, ex: EBSCOhost and WorldCat.

Many library databases, and some publicly available databases, like Google Scholar (guide) and PubMed (guide) will offer Simpson users a LinkSource link (sometimes labeled “Full Text at Dunn” or “Find Full Text at Dunn”).  Use this link to connect to our full text resources, if available, or to the ILL request form.

For databases without a direct ILL link, use the database email function, either directly to us, or to yourself first, then to us at You’ll always get a receipt of acknowledgment from the ILL department if your order was successful.

Generally books arrive within 5-7 days and journal articles within 1-3 days.  Journal articles will be sent directly to your email account, and notices will be sent to pick up books at the circulation counter. To provide the best continuing service to our users, materials must be returned on time.

Contact Kristen Graham at ext.1815 if you have questions.

Students, faculty, and staff are able to check out items directly from other Iowa libraries that participate in the Open Access program. Materials can be checked out using a Simpson ID and may be returned to that library or to Dunn Library. A list of participating Open Access Iowa libraries is available.
