Black History Month Events

African Diaspora Food Sampler

The African American and African food sampler is held during the month of February to commemorate Black History Month. Normaly we have done the African and the African American food samplers separately but we decided to combine both of them to condense our events. The combination resulted in the African Diaspora Food Sampler, a name we came up with because we wanted to include everyone with African descent who do not currently reside in Africa.

 For Colored Girls Movie Screening

On February 7th, MSA held a screening of the black feminist movie intrepretation of the 1975  stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf.

Carver Night of Black Inventors

During this Black History Month we decided to shed light on the few talked about inventions of African Americans. Carver was the highlight of the night being that he has a special connection to Simpson College. The event, on the night of February 12th and was a success, MSA members got to discover many black inventors.

The N-Word Documentary

On February 28th, MSA plans to hold the N-Word Documentary and discussion thereafter. The discussion is aimed to shed light on the historical meanings of this word and what it means to mordern day African Americans. Thediscussion will start on the presept that alot of people and almost everyone has used this word regardless or race. What the discussion will poke at is if people who exercise this word actually understand the meaning. The documentary comes in eight parts.
