Music Festivals and Camps

Experience the Simpson Music Culture!

The Simpson College Department of Music offers several festivals during the school year and two summer music camps for school-age students.  Each festival and camp offers a different experience to the young musician.

SUMMER CAMPS

Orpheus Summer Music Camp  takes place July 19-26, 2015.  Registration Deadline: June 2, 2014.  Orpheus is an exciting music camp  for high school musicians which includes classes in music theory, music history, and daily individual lessons in up to two applied areas. The camp also includes choral ensemble experiences, instrumental chamber ensembles and workshop training for operetta and musical theater. The staff is made up of the outstanding Simpson College music faculty. Scholarships are available. UPCOMING FESTIVALS

10th Annual Simpson Fall Choral Festival – Tuesday, October 14, 2014:  The Simpson College Honor Choir is designed as a non-competitive environment where exceptional students from high school programs have the opportunity to spend a day rehearsing and performing high quality choral music. A day such as this serves as an opportunity for students to energize, discover, and reaffirm their interest and passion in singing.  Concert is at 6:00 p.m. in Smith Chapel.

Single Reed Symposium – Saturday, November 8, 2014: This day will include many activities for high-school, college, recreational and professional level saxophonists and clarinetists. Master Classes, ensemble choirs, recitals, exhibits (Randy Jones of Tenor Madness) and many guest and featured artists including clarinetist Dr. Dan Friberg and the New Third Stream Quartet will make this a day to remember!

2nd Annual Voice Symposium – Friday, November 14, 2014: Engaging and interactive, this clinic for high school singers includes seminars, workshops, and career development opportunities designed to foster growth in singing, performing, and answer questions about the life of a musician beyond high school.

Simpson College Music Weekend & Scholarship Auditions – Friday & Saturday, February 27-28, 2015:  Designed especially for high school seniors and transfer students to experience the eventful life of a Simpson Music Student!  Beginning Friday morning at 8:00 a.m., attend music classes and rehearsals, meet our music faculty and current music students, hear students and faculty in concert, and have a meal at one of our dining locations.  Then on Saturday, audition for a music scholarship and tour the campus.

Simpson College Choral Invitational – Tuesday, April 28, 2015: This is a special event where invited choirs join the choral faculty at Simpson College for a day of music-making.  The evening concert features guest choirs as well as the Simpson College choral ensembles.
