Music Festivals and Camps

Experience the Simpson Music Culture!

The Simpson College Department of Music offers several festivals during the school year and two summer music camps for school-age students.  Each festival and camp offers a different experience to the young musician.




Orpheus Summer Music Camp  takes place July 17-24, 2016.  Registration Deadline: May 27, 2016.  Orpheus is an exciting music camp  for high school musicians which includes classes in music theory, music history, and daily individual lessons in up to two applied areas. The camp also includes choral ensemble experiences, instrumental chamber ensembles and workshop training for operetta and musical theater. The staff is made up of the outstanding Simpson College music faculty. Scholarships are available. 11th Annual Simpson Fall Choral Festival – Tuesday, October 13, 2015:  The Simpson College Honor Choir is designed as a non-competitive environment where exceptional students from high school programs have the opportunity to spend a day rehearsing and performing high quality choral music. 3rd Annual Voice Symposium – Friday, November 6, 2015: Engaging and interactive, this clinic for high school singers includes seminars, workshops, and career development opportunities designed to foster growth in singing, performing, and answer questions about the life of a musician beyond high school.

Single Reed Symposium – Saturday, November 7, 2015: This day will include many activities for high-school, college, recreational and professional level saxophonists and clarinetists. Master Classes, ensemble choirs, recitals, exhibits.

Simpson College Music Weekend & Scholarship Auditions – Friday & Saturday, February 12-13, 2016:  Designed especially for high school seniors and transfer students to experience the eventful life of a Simpson Music Student!  Beginning Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., attend music classes and rehearsals, meet our music faculty and current music students, hear students and faculty in concert, and have a meal at one of our dining locations.  Then on Saturday, audition for a music scholarship and tour the campus.

Simpson College Opera Event & Scholarship Auditions -Sunday, February 28, 2016

Simpson College is very well known across the country for our excellent opera program.  If you’re interested in opera and learning more about Simpson’s opera program, and are a high school senior or transfer student, this event is a great way to experience it first-hand!

This day-long event involves scholarship auditions in the morning, a Simpson Opera Brunch to learn more about our music program and meet the opera faculty, and  lastly, attend the final performance of the spring opera presented by Simpson College Opera.
