Hansel and Gretel, by Engelbert Humperdinck

The famous fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm is given sumptuous musical treatment in this late-Romantic opera that is a favorite in opera houses around the world, with music that evokes German folk tunes combined with a rich, Wagnerian orchestral palette. The opera will be performed in English by a wonderfully talented student cast, with chorus and orchestra. Music direction by Bernard McDonald, stage direction by Bruce Brown, scenic design by Steve McLean, and lighting design by Alanna Wendt.
Performance times: Friday, February 10th, 7:30pm; Saturday, February 11th, 7:30pm; Sunday, February 12th, 2:00pm.
Location: Opera performances are at the Pote Theater in the Blank Performing Arts Center at Simpson College, 513 North D. Street, Indianola, IA. Parking is available at the Center, on surrounding streets, and at a campus lot at the intersection of West Clinton Street and North C Street.
Note: This performance is recommended for ages 6 and up. Running time is approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes, including one intermission. All tickets are $18, and seating is general admission.
