7:00 p.m. | Pote Theater, Blank Performing Arts Center, Simpson College
The Simpson College Community Orchestra, under the baton of Dr. Mike Eckerty, will perform the works of Schubert, Handel, Bizet, and Dvorak during its spring concert. Following the hour-long performance, there will be a reception at which members of the audience may visit with the orchestra musicians. The concert and the reception are free, open to the public, and family-friendly.
The orchestra will welcome guest artist Suzanne Lommler, mezzo-soprano, to sing "Ombra mai fu" from the opera Xerxes by Handel. In the fall of 2018 Ms. Lommler will be singing the title role of Xerxes in a production by the Haymarket Opera Company in Chicago.
The concert will include the popular Carmen Suite #1. This suite includes the perennial favorite, the "Toreador Song".
Bookending the performance are Schubert's Rosamunde Overture and Dvorak's Slavonic Rhapsody #2 in g minor, two Romantic treasures. Come join us for the concert!
The Simpson College Community Orchestra was founded in 2011. Read about the beginnings of this group.
