Simpson College Singing Actor Camp Registration

We can't wait to see you at camp! This page will walk you through the steps to register and submit your materials. We have three types of students: pianists, vocalists seeking solo roles, and vocalists seeking ensemble roles. All students will use the same application form, then follow the appropriate checklist for your next steps. If you are seeking a recommendation from an instructor, please be prepared to provide their name and e-mail address when registering. Recommendations are required for pianists and for vocalists interested in solo roles.

Pianist

Application steps:
1) Complete the online application

3) Ask your instructor to complete the recommendation form that we will send to the e-mail address you provided. Follow up with them to make sure that we receive it by the June 1 deadline.

Deadline:
All steps must be complete by June 1st. You will be informed of our decision by June 15th.

Vocalist interested in solo roles

Application steps:
1) Complete the online application

3) Ask your instructor to complete the recommendation form that we will send to the e-mail address you provided. Follow up with them to make sure that we receive it by the June 1 deadline.

4) Mail your deposit check

Deadline:
The application, audition, and recommendation must be submitted by June 1st. Your deposit is due by June 15th.

Vocalist interested in ensemble roles

Application steps:
1) Complete the online application

2) (Optional) Ask your instructor to complete the recommendation form that we will send to the e-mail address you provided. Follow up with them to make sure that we receive it by the June 1 deadline.

3) Mail your deposit check

Deadline:
The application, and optional recommendation must be submitted by June 15th. Your deposit is due by June 15th.

Audition Guidelines for pianists and vocalists

• Total time for all audition pieces should be 5-10 minutes
• Recordings should include video and audio
• Recordings made with mobile devices are sufficient. Please carefully consider the placement of the device in relation to you for optimal video and audio quality.

Voice Audition
Prepare two or three songs of contrasting styles. Art songs, arias and Broadway or musical comedy selections are acceptable. Original languages are preferred when possible, but English translations are acceptable.

Piano Audition
Prepare two or three pieces of contrasting styles. Standard repertoire by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, etc. as well as 20th Century composers are acceptable. It is helpful, but not required, to provide a recording of you in an accompanying or collaborative performance in addition to solo work.

We prefer to receive links to YouTube videos rather than large video/audio files, as it eliminates any format reading issues. We recommend uploading your files to YouTube as "unlisted" (directions HERE); this allows us to view them when provided the link, but does not make them public.

Camp Deposit Instructions

The $100 non-refundable deposit for all vocalists is due to our offices by June 15th. Please make your check out to Simpson College Music Department, and mail to: Simpson College Music Department, 701 North C Street, Indianola, IA 50125
