FIRST STEPS IN MUSIC: BECOMING TUNEFUL, BEATFUL AND ARTFUL

John Feierabend
All children are born with the potential to become musical. With inappropriate or no musical experiences, children can lose their intuitions for music. This workshop will provide a bridge from research to practice by demonstrating how a repertoire of traditional children’s songs, rhymes, games and dances as well as movement with classical music can develop the next generation of tuneful, beautiful and artful citizens. To achieve this goal, an 8-part curriculum will be presented for use with preschool and elementary aged children.
Dr. John Feierabend is considered one of the leading authorities on music and movement development in early childhood. He is a Professor of Music and the Director of Music Education at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford and is a past President of the Organization of American Kodály Educators.
Dr. Feierabend promotes music education through frequent presentations in the United States and abroad. He is the author of more than 70 books, recordings, and DVDs, many of which served as the inspiration for the award winning PBS children’s television series Lomax: The Hound of Music.
