TransferMations

Although you’ve been a student at other institutions, this is your first time as a Simpson student, so we offer a TransferMations program and the Simpson Colloquium (SC 201) class to help you make the most of your Simpson Experience.

Fall TransferMations – Monday, August 26 – 10:00AM
TransferMations is a program designed to introduce new transfers to all the resources and opportunities available at Simpson College.

During the fall semester, TransferMations is part of the bigger Welcome Week activities for all new students.  Transfer students are welcome and encouraged to attend all Welcome Week while specific events designed just for you are noted in the schedule.  Check out the full schedule below!

 

Saturday, August 24 – Move-in day

Students living on campus check-in at their assigned residence hall and receive their welcome week packet.  You’ll receive lots of help moving in from our Greek students and can use any extra time to get acquainted with your roommate and other new students in your hall.  Make sure to look over all the contents of your welcome week packet thoroughly! It contains your mailbox combo, email information and welcome week information.

Commuter students are able to come to the Student Development office and pick up their check in materials as well.  Staff will be available to assist them with ID pictures, finalizing any materials, and assisting with any questions you may have.

Lunch can be purchased in the Pfeiffer Dining Hall or the venues in the Kent Campus Center if you would like to stay on campus or you are welcome to explore any of the options that Indianola has to offer.

The first-year service project is an opportunity to recognize the many new communities to which you belong; the friends you make while doing a worthwhile project; your Simpson Colloquium class; and the Simpson community which serves Indianola and metropolitan Des Moines in many ways.

The Service you provide for these communities today may require you to do such activities as painting and yard work, so dress appropriately.  Shoes (not sandals!) should be worn.

Choral ensembles at Simpson are open to any Simpson student who would like to participate. Participation in the College Choir, Women’s Chorale or the Chamber Singers during 2013-2014 will be determined by audition. Please sign up for a 10-minute audition on Prof. McMillin’s studio door (Studio A) as soon as possible. You do not need to bring any formal audition material. New music majors in voice and non-majors with activity or participation awards in music must audition. The choir performs works from a variety of styles and historical eras each year.

The New Student Chorus is a student-led ensemble that is open to any new student interested in a recreational choral experience during the first week of classes. (T) These events are part of the transfer student schedule.  Transfer students are required to attend the events marked with this symbol.  You are welcome at and encouraged to attend any of the activities listed in the schedule, but the ones with this symbol are specifically targeted to you!

If you have any questions or conflicts, contact your SC Leader. All other events are highly recommended.  If you have other college requirements to fulfill, such as student athletics, then you are excused. Otherwise, you should be there or else you will really miss out!
