Simpson College is pleased to announce that the speaker for the 145 th Spring Commencement will be Suku Radia, President and CEO of Bankers Trust in Des Moines. Radia will be addressing the graduating class of 2012 with the topic “Rule No. 1, Raise Your Response-ability.”
At the Commencement ceremony, Radia will be receiving an honorary degree of Doctor of Commercial Science from Simpson College.
Before joining Bankers Trust in 2008, Radia was vice president and chief financial officer of Meredith Corporation from 2000 to 2008. Prior to that, he had served as managing partner of KPMG in Des Moines since 1993. During his tenure at KPMG, he counseled senior management of national and international companies on a number of financial matters, including acquisitions, mergers, and strategic planning.
Born and raised in Kampala, Uganda, Radia came to the United States in 1971 to attend Iowa State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with distinction.
Radia has been active in a wide variety of professional, economic development, educational, and charitable organizations. He is a past president of the Des Moines Rotary Club, past chair of the Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Greater Des Moines Committee, and has served as chair of at least a dozen other civic organizations.
