David Miles, the principal owner and CEO of Miles Capital Inc. and the past president of the Iowa Board of Regents, will speak Feb. 28 at the West Des Moines campus of Simpson College.
Miles’ talk, called “In Praise of the Curious Mind,” will begin at 6 p.m. as part of Simpson’s Evening, Weekend and Graduate program’s speaker series. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m. at the West Des Moines campus, 1415 28th St., Suite 250 in West Des Moines.
Miles has earned degrees from Drake University, Harvard Law School and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. He served as president of the Iowa Board of Regents from December 2007 to July 2011. He has been a financial adviser, entrepreneur and investor for more than 25 years.
Said Miles: “Albert Einstein is reported to have once said, ‘I know quite certainly that I myself have no special talent; curiosity, obsession and dogged endurance, combined with self-criticism, have brought me to my ideas.’
“I am no Einstein, but my life’s experiences have reminded me time and time again of the value of maintaining a curious habit of mind and commitment to lifelong learning.”
