Film to Showcase Life of Cartoonist “Ding” Darling

“America’s Darling,” a documentary film about the life of former Des Moines Register cartoonist Jay N. “Ding” Darling, will hold its premiere at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Temple for the Performing Arts, 1101 Locust St. in Des Moines.

The documentary, three years in the making, traces the life of the nationally known cartoonist and pioneering conservationist from suspended college student to two-time Pulitzer Prize winner.

Chris Steffen, Darling’s great-great-grandson, will host the event, which is free.

The event is part of the speaker series sponsored by the Iowa History Center at Simpson College. TheDarling program is made possible in part through the support of the James W. Hubbell Jr. and Helen H. Hubbell Foundation, Friends of Des Moines Parks Foundation and WOW! Wonder of Words Festival.
