Foreign Policy Expert to Discuss Climate Change, National Security

The risks posed by climate change to U.S. national security will be the focus of two events to be held Oct. 12 in Indianola.

Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, will address climate change and its affect on national security. Wilkerson is an expert commentator on foreign policy and is a professorial lecturer on National Security Affairs at George Washington University.

His first talk will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. October 12 in Trinity United Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall.

That evening, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wilkerson will speak in the Kent Campus Center’s Principal Black Box Theatre on the Simpson College campus. Admission is free.

Wilkerson’s appearances are co-sponsored by the Indianola Green Team, Simpson Sustainability Club, Simpson Forum lecture series, the Culver Public Policy Center and NextGen Climate Iowa.
