Simpson has received a $500 grant from Disability Rights Iowa that will allow two students with disabilities to conduct voter registration outreach this fall to other students with disabilities.
Drew Van Winkle, director of Student Accessibility Services at Simpson, is working to identify two students to accept the outreach role. Training and support will be made available through the Culver Center and three Culver Fellows who already lead voter registration drives on campus as ambassadors for the Andrew Goodman Foundation’s Vote Everywhere program.
“People with disabilities face a number of barriers to participation in the political process, including restrictive new voter ID requirements enacted by the Iowa legislature,” said Seth Andersen, director of the John C. Culver Public Policy Center at Simpson College. “This grant from Disability Rights Iowa will help to empower our students with disabilities to register to vote and make their voices heard.”
