Kevin Concannon, the Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will speak at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 19th in Room 107 of McNeill Hall on the Simpson College campus.
The event is free, and the public is invited. This is a program sponsored by the John C. Culver Public Policy Center.
Concannon’s department runs the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp program. He will talk with Culver Fellows and Simpson students about his role overseeing the program and about careers in public service.
Concannon has had a lengthy and distinguished career in public service. Over the past twenty-five years, he has served as Director of State Health and Human Services departments in Maine, Oregon, and Iowa. He has championed expanded services, improved access, alternatives to institutions, consumer choices, affordable health care, diversity in workplace and programs, and modernization of public information technology systems.
