There were reunions, rallies and a regal grand opening for a wonderful new building.

Homecoming 2012 will be remembered at Simpson College for quite some time.

The festivities actually began Thursday night, at the President’s Society Dinner. The guests were impressed by two current students, Zach Huebener and Adrian Hawkins, and two recent graduates Kendra Frush and David Albrecht, who participated in a panel discussion on campus life and the many ways in which students grow during their time at Simpson.

Then came Friday’s dedication ceremony of the beautiful Kent Campus Center. The entire Simpson community came together to celebrate the 54,000 square foot facility which houses three new eateries, a coffee shop, a black box theatre, and the stunning Hubbell Hall. The Kent Campus Center is a testament to success and what can happen when we join forces for the common good.

The weekend brought reunions and tailgate parties and the annual Red & Gold Celebration that recognized current and past outstanding athletic talent.

The Class of ’62 celebrated their 50th reunion with a gathering of 58 alumni and spouses. They were also inducted into the Half-Century Club to commemorate their milestone anniversary.

Six outstanding alumni were recognized during the Alumni Recognition Brunch:

  • Alumni Achievement – Peter Galanis ’88, Kirk Norris ’79 and Derek Weimer ’96
  • Recent Alumni Achievement – Charise Carstensen Flynn ’04
  • Recent Alumni Loyalty – Ryan Hildreth ’05
  • Humanitarian – Robert Larsen ’56

Current students also were busy with competitions of their own and here are some of the results:

  • Homecoming king – Michael Comer.
  • Homecoming queen – Lindsay Nash.
  • Yell Like Hell winner – Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
  • Float Sink or Swim winner – Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
  • Board painting winner – Pi Beta Phi.

Alumni, students, family members and friends enjoyed the gorgeous fall football day and that night gathered in the new Principal Financial Group Black Box Theatre to enjoy the Dueling Pianos performance.

Thanks to everyone who made the weekend such a great success. Hope to see you all again next year (or even sooner)!
