Central Iowa artist and teacher Aaron Tinder ’95 will exhibit his work in Farnham Galleries on the Simpson College campus from Jan. 9 through Feb. 8.
A reception for Tinder will be held from 5-6 p.m. on Feb. 8. The exhibit and reception are free, and the public is encouraged to attend.
Tinder received a Bachelor of Arts from Simpson and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from Northern Illinois University. He currently teaches in the Department of Art & Design from Grand View University in Des Moines.
In his artist’s statement, Tinder said he works primarily through drawing, although he also relies on paint, photography and materials he has discovered.
He said his drawings and collages “deliberately combine fragments from sources that feel contradictory, forcing the viewer to find common ground among images that want to fight with each other. Themes of nostalgia, identity and compromise are all present in nearly everything, from mixed media abstractions to intricate pencil drawings.”
Tinder’s work has been exhibited in a variety of galleries and exhibits in Iowa and the Midwest.
Farnham Galleries is located on the third floor of Mary Berry Hall on the Simpson College campus. The Galleries are open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional hours are available upon request.
