Simpson Announces Winners in High School Art Contest

A high school student from Grinnell has won the best of show category in Simpson College’s second annual High School Art Competition.

The competition attracted 50 total entries.

Danica Nolton of Grinnell High School captured the Best of Show award for her photography entry, “Chromatic Origins.”

Sioux City High School also had a dominating performance, with students there winning six first- and second-place awards.

Certificates were awarded for each category to the following students:

3D Category 

First place — Samantha Meeuwsen from Sioux Center High School.

Second place — Summer Lentell from Sioux Center High School.

Drawing Category

First place — Ashley Deinken from Sioux Center High School.

Second place — Josie Huss from Sioux Center High School.

Mixed Media Category

First place — Mackinzie Van Voorst from Sioux Center High School.

Painting Category

First place — Aidan Drake from Valley High School.

Second place — Mackinzie Van Voorst from Sioux Center High School.

Photography Category 

First Place — Danica Nolton, Grinnell High School.

Second place — Lane Thompson, Grinnell High School.
