Simpson to Host First Braley/Ernst Debate

Simpson College has been chosen to be host to the first of three debates between US Senate candidates Republican Joni Ernst and Democrat Bruce Braley. The debate will be held Sept. 28, at 5 p.m. in Hubbell Hall in the Kent Campus Center.
“This hotly contested race for the U.S. Senate is sure to bring national attention to Iowa and Simpson College,” said Ray Walton, director of the John C. Culver Public Policy Center located on Simpson’s campus. “We are pleased that Simpson will be the backdrop of this event. It encapsulates all the Culver Center stands for, and is a great opportunity for Simpson students to get an up close and personal experience with a high profile political race.”
The debate will be air live from 5 to 6 p.m. on KCCI Channel 8 in central Iowa and simulcast on the Register and KCCI websites. Moderators will be Register political columnist Kathie Obradovich and KCCI senior anchor Kevin Cooney.

The debate held at Simpson is the first of three debates between the candidates in the race to succeed U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin. The other debates will be held Oct. 11 in the Quad Cities and Oct. 16 in Sioux City.

Simpson will also have the opportunity to host a second political debate on October 6 between Democrat Staci Appel and Republican David Young in the 3rd Congressional District.
