Here’s a great way to celebrate National Poetry Month: Come hear the six winners of the Des Moines Public Schools’ Teen Poetry Slam, who will be performing their original work on the Simpson campus.
The event will be held from 1-2 p.m. April 8 in the Principal Financial Group Black Box Theatre in the Kent Center.
“These phenomenal poets will represent Iowa at the annual Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival at the University of Chicago this coming summer,” said David Wolf, an associate professor of English at Simpson. “Come take in some powerful spoken word performances and show your support for these young artists.”
Simpson College has been collaborating with the Run DSM/Movement 515 student poets from Des Moines, and several Simpson students have been mentoring the young poets.
In addition to the student winners, Simpson performers will include Kati DePue, Chris Heineman, Steve Mildenstein and David Wolf.
