Theatre Event to Kick Off Women’s History Month
Three members of the Still Point Theatre Collective in Chicago will perform “Strong Women,” the first event in “Women’s History Month – AND JUSTICE FOR ALL,” at Simpson College in Indianola.
The event will be held 7 p.m. March 1 at Lekberg Hall on the Simpson campus. The public is invited to this free event.
“Strong Women” is a theatrical piece inspired by poetry written by women incarcerated in the Cook County Jail. Themes touched on include the shock of arrival and the separation of children; the experience of incarceration and abuse; the search for maintaining one’s spirit; and the quest to go on while confronting long-held fears.
Performers include current or former facilitators in the Persephone Project prison workshops. Following the 30-minute performance, the performances will reflect on their own experiences working with women in prisons.
The event has been described as important and inspiring, the perfect kick-off to Women’s History Month.
