"Discover Archeology" Field Trip
Fifth graders from Bondurant-Farrar Middle School attended the Iowa State Historical Museums “Discovery Archeology” program. Archeologists from the University of Iowa Museum Of Natural History shared stories of their ongoing dig near Oskaloosa. Through interactive workshops designed by the State Office of Archaeology, students learned what it takes to dig up history!
"Tell Me the Story of Iowa" Field Trip
Students from SE Warren Elementary school attended the Tell Me the Story of Iowa field trip in 2011. Students followed the character Buffy through her tour of the museum. Iowa history came alive for students from SE Warren Elementary School by going on treasure hunts from throughout the museum, touring the Civil War Battle Field Preservation Lab, and making take-home Victorian keepsakes. Students also learned how to do research in the Museum library and traced their own lineage.
Civil War Field Trip
Students attended the Annie Wittenmyer program where they learned about the life of Iowan Annie Wittenmyer, who cared for wounded soldiers and advocated for orphans during the Civil War. Along with learning about her they played Victorian-era games, had a workshop with Civil War re-enactors and discovered how to look for relatives from that era.
