Internships
Students in the social sciences can take part in two kinds of internships. One is the normal Coop Ed 119/219/319 internships open to all Simpson students. The other is the Field Experience and Seminar, which is required of all criminal justice majors, sociology majors, and social work minors.
The Field Experience and Seminar serves as students’ capstone course in each of the social science programs. It is normally taken in the senior year. It consists of a closely-supervised internship in which the student applies skills and knowledge specific to the major (or social work minor). A huge variety of placements are available with public and private agencies. Contact any social science faculty for more information.
Recent internships include; Youth Emergency Services and Shelter, Polk County Court, Regional Police & Sheriff Departments, Juvenile Justice Court – Warren County, Iowa Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Protection Agency, Children and Families of Iowa, Department of Public Safety, Iowa Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Protection Agency, CrossRoads of Iowa and the Des Moines Public Schools.
