Simpson Storm Venues

Baseball
The Storm play at McBride Field. The field is a natural grass facility that is 400 feet to centerfield, 370 feet to the power alleys and 325 feet down the lines. A press box was added prior to the 2000 season with lights going up in 2006, and new scoreboards constructed in the time for the 2008 season.

Cowles Field House Basketball/Volleyball
The Cowles Center prides itself on being a multipurpose athletic and physical education facility. The Cowles Fieldhouse was expanded during the summer of 1998. The area was expanded in order to house a 160-meter track. Indoor batting cages are easily accessible for the Simpson baseball and softball teams. A new wood floor was purchased for basketball and with its arrangement, up to 3,000 fans can be now accommodated in the fieldhouse.
Bill Buxton Stadium
Football/Soccer/Track
Bill Buxton Stadium is the home for Storm football and soccer teams. The stadium was remodeled with a state-of-the-art playing surface (Astro-Play), and an eight-lane running track during the summer of 2001. The stadium received a new concession stand and bathroom facilities, which were opened in time for the 1997 season. In 2005, the press box was remodeled and a new scoreboard with a message board which can statistics, photos, and other scores.

In the Fall of 2007, Simpson began remodeled the interior of Buxton Stadium with the addition of new fencing and concrete that surrounds the field.

Buxton Staduim is the home of the Kip Janvrin Open, one of the largest outdoor track meets in the Midwest with up to 1,500 entries per season.

Deer Run Golf course tee Golf
The men’s and women’s golf teams train at the 18-hole "Deer Run" course at the Deer Run Golf Club & Driving Range features 6,628 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 70 and it has a slope rating of 113 on Blue grass. Designed by Larry W. Flatt, the Deer Run golf course opened in 2000. It is conveniently located within 2 miles of campus.

Softball
The Storm play at the Simpson Softball Complex. A natural grass facility, the “Plex” is 200 feet to left, center, and right. A two-level press box was constructed in 2000 with lights added in 2006. Simpson is the only Iowa Conference softball team to have lights on its campus facility for varsity play. A new scoreboard was constructed in time for the 2008 season.

Cowles Fieldhouse includes a 25-meter swimming pool, sauna, and sun deck. A new filter system and liner was installed in the swimming pool during the summer of 1997, upgrading the quality of the pool used for the women’s swim team and also for numerous rehabilitation and practice sessions for all sports.

Buxton Tennis complex gate

Tennis
The Buxton Tennis Complex was renovated during 2007. The facility is comprised of six all weather hard courts. Seating for up to 200 people was added on the west side of the courts as well as a new main entrance in honor of the Buxton family.


Darrah Wrestling roomWrestling
The 4,000 square-foot Darrah Wrestling Room is the home to Simpson’s wrestling team. The room is complete with new mats protecting the floor and walls. The eight-inch padded floor enables the wrestling room to also be used for dance and aerobics, accommodating campus-wide interests. The room is named in recognition of Robert L. Darrah, former wrestling coach at Simpson College, in honor of his distinguished career and service to the sport of wrestling.
